Proving Yourself

"We have to develop the maturity to stop trying to prove something.
We have to learn to be content with what we are."

Easter Sunday

"No words in Christendom mean more to me than those spoken by the angel to the weeping Mary Magdalene and the other Mary when, on the first day of the week, they approached the tomb to care for the body of their Lord. Spoke the angel:

“Why seek ye the living among the dead?

“He is not here, but is risen.”

Our Savior lived again. The most glorious, comforting, and reassuring of all events of human history had taken place—the victory over death. The pain and agony of Gethsemane and Calvary had been wiped away. The salvation of mankind had been secured. The Fall of Adam had been reclaimed.

The empty tomb that first Easter morning was the answer to Job’s question, “If a man die, shall he live again?” To all within the sound of my voice, I declare, If a man die, he shall live again."

National Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month, and I've been looking around on Youtube for clips of different poets reading their work. Since the overwhelming majority of modern poetry is pretty depressing, I was happy to come across some animated poems by Billy Collins. I've attached one of those videos here for your viewing enjoyment.

Happy National Poetry Month!

Thought Traffic

"We can't know
what the divine intelligence
has in mind!

Who am I,
standing in the midst of this
thought-traffic?"

Once

Everyone once, once only. Just once and no more.
And we also once. Never again. But this having been
once, although only once, to have been of the earth,
seems irrevocable.

About Us Always

"Where there is great love there are always miracles...[Miracles] seem to me to rest not so much upon faces or voices or healing power coming suddenly near to us from afar off, but upon our perceptions being made finer, so that for a moment our eyes can see and our ears can hear what is there about us always." -Willa Cather, Death Comes For the Archbishop
